Parish Information

Kilmore Cathedral dates to the nineteenth century, but there are the remains of an earlier cathedral on the site. Indeed there is evidence to suggest that the first church at Kilmore was founded in the sixth or seventh century. Probably the most impressive feature of this cathedral is the Romanesque doorway (late twelfth, early thirteenth century), believed to have come from Trinity Island, which was inserted into the cathedral. The complex also contains the remains of a bishops palace and the See House which was built to replace it in the nineteenth century.
